Margo was the first female president of the congregation. She is currently serving as financial/recording secretary. She holds a BA and MSW from the State U. At Buffalo, taught at the Hebrew Academy of the Capital District, and served as the Jewish Chaplain/Hillel Director at Union College for close to 20 years. Now in retirement, she plays violin in the Albany Senior Citizens Orchestra, serves as a volunteer for Jewish Family Services Project Five, and enjoys
spending time with her children and grandchildren.
Jim Strosberg is currently the Recording Secretary. He and Margo and their 5 kids have been members since 1976. Jim is a retired physician. He participates in the Haftorah rotation.
Currently serves on the Board of the Schenectady County Historical Society and along with 3 other shul members perform with the Albany Area Senior Orchestra. Is a Past Chief of the Department of Medicine of Ellis Hospital and Past Chairman of the Northeastern New York Chapter of the Arthritis Foundation.
Margot Zack has been active in synagogues since she lived in Worcester, MA. She was past President of Congregation Shaarai Torah, and is currently the Sisterhood President for Congregation Beth Israel. She has appeared in several fundraising shows for the shul and for Pioneer Women of which she was a past President. She was also involved in the New England Region of the OU.
In 1973, Margot moved to Niskayuna with her husband Sid. They immediately became involved with Beth Israel, enrolling their children in the Hebrew School. Sid worked Bingo and Margot joined the Sisterhood, of which she has been President three times. She stage managed three plays at the shul aong with several plays for the JCC. She was also a volunteer at St. Claires Hospital for over thirty years. Margot is also active on the shul board as a liason for the Sisterhood.
Known as “La Rabinessa” [the Italian equivalent of ‘Rebbitzen’], was born in Israel of an Italian mother and a half-Yemenite father. She went to religious schools in Israel and served as a Commander in the Education division of the I.D.F. [army]. La Rabinessa graduated from Bar-Ilan University with a joint degree in Hebrew literature and comparative literature.
La Rabinessa has instructed Kosher cooking classes for Hebrew and Sunday School classes. She has offered international cooking classes at her own adult education program, and has done professional catering.
La Rabinessa initiated and executed virtual international travel experiences for Senior Citizens. She is very interested in the renaissance of the Ladino language and has contributed to current Ladino literature and music.
Liora is an active Rabinessa in Schenectady. She is involved in programming and planning of Shul events, preparing for holiday celebrations, teaching Torah, and visiting the sick.
Mary Moolick is the Office Manager for Congregation Beth Israel. She grew up and still resides in the town of Rotterdam, NY. She received her Associates degree in Business Administration from Hudson Valley Community College in Troy, NY and her Bachelors in Accounting from SUNY Oswego located on the shores of beautiful Lake Ontario. She has two children, Michael Jr. and Kelly.
